I like apocalyptic stories, though mostly when they are paired with creatures like zombies, aliens, or unnamed monsters. When I saw this blog tour on Xpresso Tours, I decided to give it a try.
Though this is a unique apocalyptic story, I found it difficult to get fully engaged. I struggled to make it through. I suppose I was expecting the focus to be more on the nuclear devastation, but this novel was more character-driven, and that's where it went all wrong for me. I liked Ano, the main character's best friend, quite a lot, but Kate annoyed the hell out of me. And then there's the annoying love triangle. The minuscule amount of romance is not the main focus, but there seems to be emphasis on the love triangle, which I found off-putting. In this case, the focus on the love triangle detracted from the apocalyptic story and diluted the suspense of the novel.
If you like romance novels and may or may not be a spelunker, you'll probably be ready to dive into this novel. If you're not into romance novels and love triangles, then this probably isn't your cup of tea.
