Title: The Island
Author: Dan Padavona Published: September 23, 2014 Genre: Horror My Thoughts
This mini collection of two short stories is delightfully creepy!
Spiders don't usually unsettle me. I'm in charge of spider catch and release at my house while my husband and teen sons run to hide in other rooms. However, the terrifying breed of spiders that this father and son stumble on in The Island does unsettle me. As this story unfolded, I cringed more and more. The second short story, One Autumn in Kane Grove, is set on the campus of a small town university. The sense of dread gradually increases and the tension builds while more gruesome deaths are discovered, until the climactic scene. Both short stories have perfect endings for short horror, and I highly recommend them to horror fans...but you may want to leave a light on while you read. About Dan Padavona
When you read one of my books I hope you feel like you are sitting around a campfire with me at midnight...the sweet smell of wood burning, the fire crackling like a bullwhip, and a full moon chasing the shadows back to the woods. Just remember to save me a marshmallow. I like mine light brown, like cinnamon toast.
I was born and raised in Cortland, NY, not far from the Finger Lakes region. Today, I live outside of Binghamton, NY, with my wife Terri, and our two children. I have been an avid reader for as long as I can remember, mainly fantasy and horror. If you happen upon me, you'll probably see that I am reading Terry Brooks, Richard Laymon, J.K. Rowling, Jack Ketchum, or one of the many authors who have so enriched my life with their ability to tell a good tale. More than anything, I love a good horror story. Let me tell you one.
