Maren's career isn't doing so great. She was trained as a defence technician - a specialised fighter commissioned to protect stations - but the only job she could get was as a maintenance worker on Station 334. She's not complaining, though. Not too much, anyway. She's made friends on the communications outpost, and the job isn't without thrills.

But there are whispers of something terrible and deadly creeping closer...

Gin, Maren's friend and 334's communications lead, has been receiving an exceptionally high number of emergency help requests from remote stations. Their governing body, Central, has lost contact with the response teams it sent. And a single frantic sound bite suggests humanity's situation is far more dire than anyone thought.

Maren's defence training might prove useful after all.
Station 334 is a novella in the five-part Cymic Parasite Breach series. Each story can be read independently.

My Thoughts

Station 334 is the fourth story in the Cymic Parasite Breach series, this one a novella, as well written as the first three short stories in the series. Each story features a different set of characters, yet they all have the same antagonist. No worries if you haven't read the first three; they can be read independently. Yet, reading the first three short stories will give you insight into what it is they are fighting.

Maren, Gin, Suriya, Mark, and Saul work together in station 334 on the semi-planet, Cycern. Each character is unique and is a crucial part of the story. We eventually meet some of the staff of the other two stations on Cycern, but I would have been happy if they had stayed at their stations.

Station 334 is perfectly paced with just the right amount of back story to shape the characters without slowing down the pace or interfering with the excitement.

I won't reveal anything about what they're up against or the ending, but suffice it to stay you may be surprised, but if even you aren't, you'll still be entertained. Station 334--as well as the entire Cymic Parasite Breach series--is a must read for science fiction fans.

Rating: 5/5
