Title: Splintered Souls (Twin Flames Book 1)
Author: Erica Lucke Dean Published: September 22, 2015 Publisher: Red Adept Publishing Genre: Fantasy, Paranormal My Thoughts
Splintered Souls begins with a captivating scene from the past--where the story truly begins--before we jump to the present day to meet Ava, the protagonist. I liked her from the start. Like Laith tells her, she's smart and feisty, and though young and inexperienced, she isn't weak.
I wasn't sure about her new friend, Sam, at first. She seemed too bubbly and superficial, but she grew on me as the story progressed. I thought all of the characters were well fleshed out, even the secondary characters. I am not a fan of love triangles, and had I known that a blessing made long ago would bind the three main characters together, I most likely wouldn't have read it. By the time I realized that was the case here, it was too late. I was too invested in the characters and in the story, and I desperately needed to know what happened to each of them. I'm still on the fence on whether to consider Ava and Maddox's affection insta-love because he gives her true reasons to truly love him. But she feels a pull toward Laith as well. The magical blessing that binds their souls--all three of them--makes me feel that their obsessive attraction to each other, though unorthodox, is instinctive. I like how the original story is woven throughout, giving readers a glimpse of the actions that ultimately result in the drive of Maddox and Laith to destroy each other. The ending is action-packed and leaves us with a jaw-dropping cliff hanger. Splintered Souls is a well written book that is easy to read, even for those of us who are not die-hard romance fans. Despite the love triangle, I must admit it was an enjoyable read and a solid start to a new series. This story will appeal to those who like love triangles and romance stories about soul mates. I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review. About the Author
